Privacy Policy

Effective Date: August 7, 2026

Introduction and organizational info

We, at Fresh Start Charities, a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (“Fresh Start Charities,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), are dedicated to serving our supporters, volunteers, and website visitors to the best of our abilities. Part of our commitment involves the responsible management of personal information collected through our website freshstartcharities.org, and any related interactions. Our primary goals in processing this information include:

  • Responding to inquiries about our housing, animal welfare, and transportation programs.
  • Processing volunteer applications and connecting volunteers with opportunities to serve.
  • Improving our website and communicating with supporters about our work.

It is our policy to process personal information with the utmost respect for privacy and security. We adhere to relevant privacy laws and guidelines to ensure that the data we handle is protected against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction.

We do not have a designated Data Protection Officer but remain fully committed to addressing your privacy concerns. Should you have any questions, please contact us at Chris@freshstartcharities.org.

Scope and application

This policy applies to the personal information of all website visitors, volunteers, donors, and program partners interacting with freshstartcharities.org, whether you are browsing our site, submitting an inquiry or volunteer application, or making a donation.

Data collection and processing

We gather personal data when you interact with our website, such as when you submit our contact form (used for general inquiries, volunteer applications, and program requests, including “Apply Here” and “Save a Dog” submissions) or make a donation. The following list details the types of personal information we may process:

  • First and last name
  • Email address and phone number
  • Subject and message content you submit, including any details you choose to share about your inquiry or volunteer interest
  • IP address and IP-based approximate location
  • Browser and operating system information
  • Interaction logs (e.g., pages viewed, time spent on pages, links clicked)

We do not collect this information directly when you make a donation — see “Donations” below. We do not knowingly collect Social Security numbers, government-issued identification numbers, precise geolocation, health information, or other sensitive personal information through this website.

Donations

Donations are not processed on this website. The “Make Donation” button is a link that takes you to Give Lively, an independent third-party donation platform, at a secure page hosted at givelively.org. Any personal or payment information you provide when making a donation — such as your name, email address, billing address, and payment details — is collected and processed directly by Give Lively, under its own privacy policy, which we encourage you to review. We do not collect, transmit, receive, or store any donation or payment information through freshstartcharities.org.

How personal information is used

Personal information collected through this site is used for:

  • Responding to inquiries, volunteer applications, and program requests
  • Website analytics and performance tracking
  • Communicating with supporters about our programs and impact
  • Compliance with legal and nonprofit reporting obligations

Data storage and protection

Personal information is stored on secure servers located in the United States. We employ the following measures to protect your information:

  • Encryption: To protect data during transfer and at rest, we employ robust encryption technologies.
  • Access control: Access to personal information is strictly limited to authorized personnel with a legitimate business need.
  • Security monitoring: We monitor our systems for unusual activity and conduct periodic reviews to identify and remediate vulnerabilities.

Data sharing and disclosure

We may share your information with third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf, such as website hosting and email communications. These parties are contractually obligated or otherwise required to keep your information confidential and to use it only to provide services to us. We do not sell personal information. As noted above, if you choose to make a donation via the link to Give Lively, that transaction takes place entirely on Give Lively’s website and is not information we share, receive, or have access to.

If you apply to volunteer or request a program service, we may share relevant portions of your information with the specific partner organization or program involved in fulfilling your request.

Your privacy choices

Fresh Start Charities is a nonprofit organization, and the California Consumer Privacy Act’s business obligations generally do not apply to standalone nonprofits like ours. As a matter of policy, however, we voluntarily extend the following choices to all website visitors, regardless of location:

  • You may request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • You may request that we correct or delete personal information we hold about you, subject to recordkeeping obligations (such as donor and tax records we are required to retain).
  • You may opt out of receiving marketing communications from us at any time.
  • You may opt out of non-essential analytics and advertising technologies using the cookie preference center described below.

To exercise any of these choices, contact us at Chris@freshstartcharities.org. We will respond within a reasonable time, generally within 45 days.

Cookies, tracking technologies, and your privacy choices

Cookies and similar tracking technologies are used on this website for functionality, analytics, and (where you consent) advertising purposes. On your first visit you will be presented with a cookie consent banner where you can accept all, reject non-essential, or customize your preferences by category. Non-essential cookies, tags, and tracking scripts do not load until you have made a choice in the banner.

Analytics and communications technologies (CIPA)

This site uses website analytics and tag management tools, including Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, which may record certain interactions such as pages viewed and links clicked. These tools are configured to load only after you have responded to the cookie consent banner described above. This site does not currently use a live chat widget or a session-replay tool. If that changes, this policy will be updated to name the specific tool and describe how it is used, consistent with our commitment to accurately disclose the technologies in use on this site.

By continuing to browse this site after receiving the cookie consent notice, you consent to the collection and processing of information as described in this policy and in the cookie preference center. You may decline non-essential tracking technologies at any time through the preference center linked above.
